Florida Politics: Ardian Zika secures HD 37 Republican nomination with ease

Three Republicans competed in the primary to succeed exiting House Speaker Richard Corcoran in Pasco County’s House District 37, and with the election in the books, Land O’ Lakes businessman Ardian Zika earned the nomination.

With 35 of 36 precincts reporting, Zika led his closest opponent, Elle Rudisill, 57-26 percent. The third Republican vying for the seat, Ryan Patrick Boney, received about 17 percent of the vote.

Zika, who immigrated to the U.S. from Kosovo in the 1990s, held a consistent lead in fundraising and in endorsements throughout his campaign to replace Corcoran, who could not run again due to term limits.

Five days ahead of the primary, Zika had raised more than $227,000 for his campaign and had more than $85,000 left to spend.

Among the many backers Republican politicians backing his bid were St. Petersburg Republican Sen. Jeff Brandes, Senate Majority Leader Wilton Simpson, former House Speaker Will Weatherford, Pasco Tax Collector Mike Fasano and Pasco Sheriff Chris Nocco.

His support among first responder and trade groups was also strong, with the Fraternal Order of Police, the Florida Chamber of Commerce lining up behind his bid in the three-way primary.

Rudisill, also of Land O’ Lakes, wasn’t as successful on the fundraising front — her tally barely crossed the $15,000 mark — but she did gain some nods from area Republicans, including former Clearwater Rep. Ed Hooper, Pasco Clerk Paula O’Neill, former state Rep. Ken Littlefield and former Pasco Commissioner Henry Wilson.

Boney, an Odessa Republican, entered the race at the beginning of the year and didn’t field much of a campaign. The lone action from his campaign account was fronting the ballot fee by way of a candidate contribution.

With the nomination secured, Zika now moves on to the general election, where he’ll go head-to-head against Land O’ Lakes Democrat Tammy Garcia.

Garcia, a first-time candidate who works in medical insurance billing, has raised $12,381 since opening her campaign account in January with about $5,800 in the bank on Aug. 23. Finances aside, she faces an uphill battle given HD 37’s strong Republican lean.

While there are no state House results to point to — Corcoran never faced an Election Day challenger in his four campaigns — the district cemented itself as a Republican stronghold when Donald Trump carried the it by a 61-34 percent margin on Election Day 2016.

HD 37 covers the majority of inland Pasco County, including the communities of Land O’ Lakes, Odessa, Heritage Pines, Shady Hills, Meadow Oaks and Moon Lake.

NewsTalk Florida: Ardian Zika Is The Embodiment Of “The American Dream”

Zika has a great story to tell and now he hopes the voters embrace it

This week I spent some time talking with Ardian Zika who is running for the Republican nomination for the Florida State House of Representatives representing District 37. In my conversation with him, he spoke about how proud was of his long journey to the United States from Kosovo and how through hard work he was able to achieve the American Dream.

He is a proud family man, married to wife Tasha for twelve years and the couple has five children, Natalie, Riley, Jed, Zachary, and William. Zika, is the President and CEO of Guardian Street, LLC., a strategic business advisory practice specializing in small and medium size commercial and industrial middle market companies

So, while Zika’s story is both compelling and inspiring he finds himself in a three-way battle to win the Republican nomination for the seat that was held by one of the state’s most powerful politicians, former Speaker of the Florida House Richard Corcoran who is leaving due to term limits. So, that means Zika will have best both Elle Rudisill, and Ryan Patrick Boney to secure the nomination.

Zika is an old school politician who knocks on doors, walks through neighborhoods, and has worn out the souls of his boots twice. But his “boots on the ground” door to door campaign has covered much of District 37 as he has spoken to voters from the Ehren Cutoff in Land O’ Lakes tracking west in Pasco County to Little Road. and everywhere in between.

His message to each person he has met along the way has always been a positive one that he believes America is an exceptional country that his proud to call his home.

There is little doubt that he is a conservative Republican running for the Florida House of Representatives and with his key priorities are focusing on Education, Economy, and the Environment.

But while those are great talking points that he clearly believes in I wanted more details and he was more than happy to answer my questions.

Williams: You have a strong background in education. What are some of the most pressing educational improvements that you feel can benefit the state of Florida?

Zika: Education is the single most important ingredient to any society and there is a direct correlation between strong education policy and the strong economy. As a father of five young children education is very important. I will tirelessly work to ensure that our children receive a world-class education through school choice. School choice empowers families and students and that is very important. We must also reduce the cost of higher education and start heavily focusing on vocational training to meet the workforce demands of the community. These aren’t new issues to me. I’ve been working on them during my service on the Pasco Education Foundation Board of Directors and Pasco-Hernando State College Board of Trustees.

That’s why I’m humbled to receive the endorsement of a former and current Pasco Schools Superintendent and two current school board members. And, I’m humbled to have the endorsement of Associated Builders & Contractors, Florida Gulf Coast Chapter and the Florida Chamber of Commerce because they share my view that Florida education must be world class so our children and our workforce have the skills they need to keep our state economically vibrant and strong.

Williams: On the law and order side of things – What will you do to help local police and the communities work together so that there is a mutual respect for both sides?

Zika: Our law enforcement community is a strong community partner. I’ll work closely with them and encourage our community to stand with our law enforcement and first responders. I will tirelessly work to provide the tools and resources law enforcement and our first responders need to keep our community safe and secure.

Sheriff Chris Nocco is a strong leader and I’m very proud of his leadership in our community and honored to have his endorsement. I’m also honored to have the endorsement of the Fraternal Order of Police – Pasco Chapter, West Central Florida Police Benevolent Association and Tampa Police Benevolent Association. The men and women who wear the badge risk their lives daily to keep our community safe and I am humbled by their support of my campaign.

Williams: You understand business – What do you hope to do to help bring new business to both your district as well as the state of Florida?

Zika: I will work tirelessly to grow our economy. As a small business owner, it’s very important that Pasco and Florida remain business friendly and a place where you can start and grow your business. Recruiting new jobs to Pasco is very important to ensure economic growth. A combination of strong education policy and strong economic policy creates an environment for businesses to grow. The Cybersecurity sector is a real opportunity to attract new companies and high paying jobs to Pasco. My experience in the private sector will be very helpful as we work to attract new jobs to Pasco.

I’m humbled to have the endorsement of the Florida Chamber of Commerce, Associated Industries of Florida, the National Federation of Independent Businesses FL PAC (small business community) and other endorsements from the business community. I’ve also had the pleasure of serving as a member of the Dade City Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors, YMCA Trinity Advisory Board, and the YMCA Zephyrhills Advisory Board.

So, this time next week will see if Zika’s American Dream and his always positive attitude about life will translate into to a win at the polls. Win or lose I have a feeling that Zika’s passion for his city, his state, his new country and now politics is not going away anytime soon.

Florida Politics: Chris Nocco gives full endorsement of Ardian Zika in new ad

Land O’ Lakes Republican Ardian Zika is rolling out a new ad touting an endorsement from Pasco County Sheriff Chris Nocco in the Republican primary for House District 37.

“I’m Pasco County Sheriff Chris Nocco and in this election, I’m standing with Ardian Zika for state representative,” Nocco says in the ad. “Ardian stands with our first responders, that’s why he is endorsed by the Police Benevolent Association and the Fraternal Order of Police.

“I hope you join me and the men and women who wear the badge and so many others in our community and vote for Ardian Zika for state representative,” Nocco concludes.

Zika, a businessman, faces Elle Rudisill and Ryan Patrick Boney in the Aug. 28 Republican primary to succeed term-limited House Speaker Richard Corcoran in the Pasco-based House seat. The winner of that contest will go up against Land O’ Lakes Democrat Tammy Garcia in the Nov. 6 general election.

Through July 20, Zika had cracked the $200,000 mark in total fundraising and had more than $164,000 in the bank. That puts him far ahead of the combined total of his challengers.

In addition to his strong fundraising and law enforcement support, Zika has locked down endorsements from the Florida Chamber of Commerce, St. Petersburg Republican Sen. Jeff Brandes, Senate Majority Leader Wilton Simpson and former House Speaker Will Weatherford.

HD 37 covers the majority of inland Pasco County, including the communities of Land O’ Lakes, Odessa, Heritage Pines, Shady Hills, Meadow Oaks and Moon Lake.

Corcoran never faced an Election Day challenger in his four campaigns in the House, three of which came after HD 37 was redrawn. The seat is a Republican stronghold that voted plus-27 for Donald Trump two years ago.

Florida Politics: Ardian Zika hits $200K raised for HD 37 campaign

Land O’ Lakes businessman Ardian Zika hit another fundraising milestone in the race to succeed House Speaker Richard Corcoran in Pasco County’s House District 37.

Zika, a Republican, tacked on another $6,150 during the middle two weeks of July, bringing his overall fundraising past the $200,000 mark since he entered the race in August 2017. He has more than $164,000 in the bank.

“I am humbled by the strong financial support our campaign has received from throughout the district and from the Tampa Bay area,” Zika said. “I am grateful for the many generous donors who have heard our message and have given of their hard-earned resources to help us get the message out to the voters in House District 37.

“I’m also extraordinarily grateful for the many volunteers, who have given of their time as we have walked door to door throughout House District 37,” he continued. “Only our campaign qualified for the ballot by petition, our campaign has large signs and yard signs in neighborhoods across the district, and most importantly, we have walked every single precinct, knocking on doors and meeting voters at their homes.”

Zika’s fundraising tally keeps him far ahead of his primary opponents, Elle Rudisill and Ryan Patrick Boney, neither of whom have made much headway on the fundraising trail.

Rudisill, also of Land O’ Lakes, has raised a little over $14,000 for her campaign after more than a year in the race. She had about $5,400 at the ready as of July 20. Boney, of Odessa, has only shown about $1,800 in activity since joining the fracas in January. He spent every dime in his campaign account covering the qualifying fee to make the ballot.

In addition to his strong fundraising, Zika has had plenty of success reeling in endorsements. His most recent nod came in from the Florida Chamber of Commerce, with prior backers including three police unions, St. Petersburg Republican Sen. Jeff Brandes, Senate Majority Leader Wilton Simpson and former House Speaker Will Weatherford, who represented Pasco County’s HD 38 during his time in the House.

The primary election is Aug. 28. Whomever emerges from the three-way battle will be the heavy favorite to succeed Corcoran, who cannot run for re-election due to term limits. Still, the Republican nominee must defeat Land O’ Lakes Democrat Tammy Garcia in the Nov. 6 general election. She had raised a little over $10,000 for her campaign and had $6,100 on hand through the reporting period ending July 6.

Zika has also received endorsements from former Florida Department of Elder Affairs Secretary Sam Verghese, Florida Right To Life PAC, and the Florida Gulf Coast chapter of Associated Builders and Contractors.

Florida’s primary elections will be held on August 26.  The deadline for voter registration is July 30.

Florida Politics: Ardian Zika endorsed by former Pasco state Senator

Ardian Zika has added another backer in his bid to replace term-limited House Speaker Richard Corcoran in House District 37.

The Land O’ Lakes Republican announced Wednesday that John Grant, who represented Pasco and Hillsborough counties in the Florida Senate from 1986 to 2000, had endorsed him in the four-way Republican Primary for Pasco County-based seat.

“For fourteen years the voters of Pasco County gave me the honor of representing them in the Florida Senate,” Grant said. “They elected and re-elected me because I shared their values. Ardian Zika shares those same values and that’s why I am supporting his election to the Florida House of Representatives, District 37.”

Grant joins St. Petersburg Republican Sen. Jeff Brandes, Senate Majority Leader Wilton Simpson, former House Speaker Will Weatherford,  Pasco Tax Collector Mike Fasano, Pasco Sheriff Chris Nocco, and the Fraternal Order of Police in endorsing Zika.

“I am honored to have former Florida State Senator John Grant’s endorsement,” Zika said. “Senator Grant represented the residents of Pasco County for fourteen years in our state capitol. He fought for lower taxes, less government, more personal responsibility and freedom. I am grateful for Senator Grant’s example and for his support and endorsement of my campaign.”

Zika is running against Ryan Boney, Bill Gunter and Elle Rudisill in the primary. Democrats Tammy Garcia and Denise Mestanza-Taylor are also running.

Through April, Zika had raised more than $183,000 for his campaign and had $170,000 in the bank. Rudisill is in a distant second place with $13,500 banked, while Boney and Gunter each have $0 in their campaign accounts.

HD 37 covers the majority of inland Pasco County, including the communities of Land O’ Lakes, Odessa, Heritage Pines, Shady Hills, Meadow Oaks and Moon Lake.

The district is a Republican stronghold. Corocran never faced an Election Day challenger in his three re-election campaigns since HD 37 was redrawn. The seat voted plus-27 for Donald Trump in 2016.

Florida Politics: Pasco police union endorses Ardian Zika for HD 37

Republican Ardian Zika announce Monday that he’d picked up an endorsement for his House District 37 bid from a Pasco chapter of the Fraternal Order of Police.

“It gives me great pleasure to give you the endorsement of the Fraternal Order of Police, Pasco County Sheriff’s Lodge 29,” said R.W. “Skip” Stone, President of the FOP Pasco County Sheriff’s Lodge 29. “We represent the members of the Fraternal Order of Police in Pasco County and are entrusted to looking after their best interest while they serve the citizens of Pasco County.

“We are grateful for your support of public safety and are confident you will be a fair and impartial voice. We value your professionalism and commitment to both the citizens of Pasco County and those who put their lives on the line on a daily basis to make sure Pasco County is a safe place to live. Thank you for your commitment to public service, public safety, and our members.”

The police union’s nod was preceded by another major law enforcement endorsement. Pasco County Sheriff Chris Nocco and Pasco Tax Collector Mike Fasano announced last week that they were backing Zika in the four-way Republican Primary for HD 37, currently held by termed-out House Speaker Richard Corcoran.

Zika, a Land O’ Lakes businessman who immigrated to the U.S. from Kosovo in the 1990s, said he was honored to be Lodge 29’s pick for the Florida House.

“The Fraternal Order of Police represents the women and men who put their lives on the line every day to keep us safe and secure. I am thankful for their willingness to serve and protect us daily and appreciate the sacrifice their families make so they may serve our community,” Zika said. “Our law enforcement professionals and their families have earned our respect and appreciation and I am humbled to have their support this election.”

Past endorsements for Zika have come in from St. Petersburg Republican Sen. Jeff Brandes, Senate Majority Leader Wilton Simpson and former House Speaker Will WeatherfordZika’s campaign also recently announced last week that it had gathered enough signatures to make the HD 37 ballot by petition.

He faces Ryan Boney, Bill Gunter and Elle Rudisill in the Republican Primary. Democrats Tammy Garcia and Denise Mestanza-Taylor are also running, though HD 37 is a safe GOP seat.

Through April, Zika held a commanding lead in the money race. He has so far raised more than $183,000 and has $170,000 on hand, followed by Rudisill with $13,500 banked and Boney and Gunter each with $0 in their campaign accounts.

HD 37 covers the majority of inland Pasco County, including the communities of Land O’ Lakes, Odessa, Heritage Pines, Shady Hills, Meadow Oaks and Moon Lake.
